Embrace Adventure: Planning for a Safe and Exciting Holiday Season

WOW!

Welcome to the last month of the year! It feels like this year has blasted by, leaving a trail of memories filled with action and adventure. But don’t let that slow you down. Getting out and exploring this great country of ours will have you planning trips for a long time to come. Some of us may get the opportunity to do a lap around Australia, while others will take shorter trips to specific spots of interest.

For us, we’ve planned out our 2025 and some of 2026, getting away to see different localities, enjoy their scenery, take great photos, and drive down some decent tracks.

We took to our mighty Nissan Patrol 18 months ago and decked it out with upgrades that have proved to be very reliable. But it’s not the time to be complacent about regular vehicle maintenance. While we service and inspect it every 10,000 kms, we keep an eye on any issues that may arise while we’re away from home. We plan the repairs and make sure the Patrol is in the best shape it can possibly be.

If you’re planning on making a few trips around the place, even short local ones, having to do roadside maintenance repairs is never a great time. Last weekend, we took a handful of Cub Scouts to Kroombit Tops to camp overnight, and even I wasn’t immune to having to do a puncture repair on my Patrol. One of the Scout leaders on the trip mentioned that he remembered me putting on new tyres the month before I went out to the desert last September. He said, “they didn’t seem to last too long.” When you enjoy driving off-road and using the traction available via your tyres, they tend to wear out rapidly. Even though I may have more than the legal limit left on my tyres, they are now not suitable for adventuring into areas where the terrain is quite sharp and loose.

So, new tyres are on order for me.

Putting off your repairs until the last minute can be costly. This time of year, when tradies are looking to shut down for Christmas and New Year, the rush is on to get things done that we probably should have planned for last month or even the month before. Remember to be kind and let these guys and girls do their absolute best to accommodate you and the repairs or service you require.

From the whole team at Johnson’s 4WD, we wish you a safe and adventurous holiday season filled with many festive celebrations. Stay safe on our roads if you are planning to travel. We look forward to sharing our adventures with you in 2025.
