RockyNats 04: Celebrating Automotive Passion in Central Queensland
The change in weather is enjoyable, and we love this time of year when the days begin to cool and the nights become ideal for exploration. With the kids now well-adjusted to their new school year and the first term nearly behind us, we eagerly anticipate the Easter break and what is undoubtedly Australia’s premier motoring event, RockNats 04 – well, at least we think it is. Our region can take great pride in hosting this multi-award-winning event, attracting over 1,500 nominations for cars and bikes from across Australia, all coming together in Rockhampton to spend their Easter in what could only be described as a Central Queensland paradise. Yes, we know we’re biased.
As a family with a deep affection for cars, our passion has expanded with the addition of two 4WDs, purchased by our eldest children as their first vehicles. We appreciate how they view their cars as more than mere means of transport, embracing them as a lifestyle choice. Growing up, they might not have had much say in this matter, but now they recognize the benefits of car ownership, the places it can take them, and the people they can meet by embracing this lifestyle.
A prime example of this lifestyle in action is when we ventured into the Simpson Desert, meeting up with 40 other enthusiasts for ten nights of 4WDing and camping. Similarly, taking our Mustang for social cruises around Central Queensland has become a favourite activity. Our last cruise featured a convoy of 15 Mustangs, allowing us to meet like-minded individuals and embrace easy conversations and new friendships.
This year, both of our vehicles, The Johnson’s 4WD Y62 and our Blue Mustang have been nominated for RockyNats. You can catch them in the street parade on Friday. Nyree will compete in the 1/8th mile Street Drags with the Mustang, while the Y62 will be showcased at Dave Casey’s SWL 4×4 display by the river.
